Nervous to travel solo to a menopause wellness retreat? You’re not alone.

In one of our recent polls with 3,000 menopausal women, the fear of travelling alone was one of the biggest factors stopping them from embarking on one of our retreats, especially if they had to travel overseas.

You’re all set to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. But wait, there’s something stopping you. To get to your menopause wellness retreat you need to travel SOLO! Eeek! Is that you? Are you too nervous to travel solo to a retreat? If so, you’re not alone.

In a recent poll with our 3,000 members, the fear of travelling alone was one of the biggest factors stopping them from embarking on one of our wellness retreats, especially if they had to travel overseas. And it’s totally understandable.

For many women in the peri/menopausal stage of life, it can be the first time they’ve travelled alone for some time, so it’s only natural to question if they can handle the challenges that may arise. Travel delays, unfamiliar transport, lost luggage, and negotiating connections are enough to put off the most seasoned travellers.

But by far the biggest worry about traveling alone is that it means stepping out of their comfort zone, which can be both exciting and intimidating. Fear of the unknown, new people, and possibly different customs and languages makes many hesitant to embark on a solo trip.

But when we factor in peri/menopause, anxiety can be off the scale. Combined with low self-confidence and overwhelm, it can be easy to fixate on all the things that could possibly go wrong, and totally overlook the missed opportunities by staying in the comfort zone.

So, whilst a menopause wellness retreat might sound just what the doctor ordered, it’s no good if the stress and fear of solo travel overshadows it, or even prevents us from packing that suitcase.

So, just how do you overcome the fear of travelling solo?

1. Preparation is key: It’s important to make sure you have all the information and support you need in advance of the trip. At all our wellness retreats, we go out of our way to help women overcome their nerves by providing detailed itineraries, emergency contact details, and solid arrangements well before the suitcase gets packed.

2. Group travel: Knowing that there’s going to be someone else you can hook up with on the journey can help reduce the jitters, so where possible, we try to group ladies on the same flights / trains / car shares. With women usually travelling from a range of UK and US destinations to our retreats, the chances of travelling with a companion from the same region are quite high.

3. Community support: Before the retreat even begins, we create a community of support from others attending the retreat. Simply being able to meet each other beforehand, even if it's only virtual, also helps to reduce those feelings of isolation and nervousness that can occur as the retreat draws near.

4. Meet & Greet: Worry about not knowing where to go once you arrive at the airport / train station can also increase anxiety. As well as organising group transfers so you are not alone, we also ensure that one of our retreat organisers is there to greet you and share your transfer to the venue. So when you step off your flight / train, you can rest assured that someone will be waiting for you.

5. Emergency contacts: On the actual day of travel, our policy is to stay in touch with all our retreat members so that in the event of any travel delays, we are on hand to provide help and reassurance.

After conquering their travel fears, the ladies who've attended our past retreats all say that the fear and stress of anticipating the journey was way more than the actual reality. For many, it unleashed their inner explorer and since then, they've gone on to enjoy even more retreats. And you too will soon realise that you're capable of conquering so much more – one adventure at a time!

Trust us, menopause wellness retreat will leave you with memories to cherish and a newfound zest for life that will alight a thirst for adventure for years to come.
