What does wellness mean to you?
Is it when you look good, or you have the latest outfit, or when the bathroom scales show the right number, or when you have that post-holiday glow? Is it when you're not at work and juggling a million things?
One thing's for sure; wellness is not just the absence of illness. It's so much more than that.
I like to define wellness as a state of physical, mental and emotional balance. A time when we feel relaxed and happy, and it doesn't matter where we are and what we're doing. We simply feel in balance and at one with life. But how often can we lay claim to feeling this way?
It could be argued that true wellness is a luxury commodity as we transition through menopause. Combined with the added stress of juggling work and family, wellness is something that some of us never really discover or enjoy. We're too busy treading water.
That's why wellness retreats are becoming more and more popular because they offer a gateway to finding balance. Wellness retreats are neither a holiday or spa nor are they a fitness boot camp or detox farm. Instead, they offer something unique, and here's why they could be just what you need as you navigate peri/menopause.
A break from family
You love them; of course, you do. But sometimes, isn't it nice to get away from all their wants and needs and indulge in YOURSELF for a change? When you return from a wellness retreat, they get to enjoy the very best version of you, and you get to discover just how much you miss them.
A break from technology
What joy to unplug and disconnect yourself from everything happening in the world and focus on YOU for a change. A wellness retreat offers a pure escape from endless scrolling and pinging and feels liberating. Plus, when you return, you will realise that very little has changed in your absence!
A break from your current circumstances
Remember the expression, 'Can't see the wood for the trees?' If your current situation (family, work or relationship) makes you feel unhappy or stressed, a wellness retreat can help you take a few steps back and evaluate your situation. When you return, you return with more clarity and a fresh perspective.
Detoxify your body and mind.
A wellness retreat is a great way to switch up your nutrition and enjoy foods that you might not normally eat. Eating fresh and wholesome vegetarian food, often made from scratch without additives or refined or processed ingredients, will give your body and digestion the break it needs. At a wellness retreat, it's all about eating well, not less, and you will learn just how liberating this feels.
Get out of your comfort zone.
This is one of the best things about going on a wellness retreat. Doing things you might not normally do, such as yoga, walking, meditation, journaling, workshops, group activities, or simply travelling solo, will help you shake off the routine and discover many potential new hobbies and skills. It's how we grow as individuals and test our limits.
Make new friends
It can be challenging to make friends at our age. However, simply spending time with other women going through peri/menopause and listening to their experiences helps you learn that you're not alone and aren't going crazy. We're all in the same boat! Moreover, you will return with a whole new set of friends and brimming with confidence.
Learn how to navigate peri/menopause.
Our wellness retreats are exclusively designed for peri/menopausal women and, as well as a whole host of activities, include a series of short workshops that will help deepen your knowledge and understanding of this transitional stage of life. Along with a 1:2:1 wellness consultation, you will leave armed with a range of holistic tools to help ease your symptoms from the comfort of your home.
Find peace
But one of the main reasons to embark on a wellness retreat is to learn to be more aware of the present moment. We spend so much time living in the past or worrying about the future. Discovering the joy and simplicity of simply being in the present is nice. And as you plan for the next chapter in post-menopause, it's a great way to take stock of your life, find peace with yourself, and discover true balance.
